Save the Froggies

In case you haven’t heard, James Jay Lee is holding an unconfirmed number of hostages at the Discovery Channel.  Apparently, Lee has taken issue with Discovery’s programming.  He claims that the channel promotes the births of “more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions”, possibly referring to shows like Kate Plus 8 and 19 Kids and Counting.  He calls civilization “filth”, as well.

In his online manifesto, which reads like the writings of someone who is clearly not in touch with reality.  (I’ve never actually read a manifesto that sounded like the writer was sane, except maybe the Communist Manifesto.)  Many of the statements seemed almost paranoid in nature, including, “Also, keep out the fraudulent peace movements. They are liars and fakes and had no real intention of ending the wars. ALL OF THEM ARE FAKE! On one hand, they claim they want the wars to end, on the other, they are demanding the human population increase.”

One of the more interesting statements in the whole thing is:

Saving the environment and the remaning species diversity of the planet is now your mindset. Nothing is more important than saving them. The Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels.

The humans? The planet does not need humans.

It is quite amusing to see someone who is obviously a bit unhinged using the term “froggies” and deeming squirrels, raccoons, ants, and beetles as being more important than humans.  I am not saying that people are more or less important than any species, but placing species on the list that many people see as being pests shows a bit of a disconnect between him and the mainstream.

People are entitled to their beliefs and opinions about the world, but when someone takes their beliefs to the extreme and begins perpetrating an act that is more aligned with extremism or terrorism, it becomes harder to accept their point of view as rational.
